Again, searched to no result. All I could find was that lite-on was quieter, which doesn't answer my question at all.

What are the major differences between BenQ and Lite-On versions of the Philips. From working on them, I have found that major parts inside are the same as I assume that's the Philips [and mechanical] part of the drive. Is the BenQ/Lite-on parts of the drive, just different boards and firmware? I also know a yellow wire is lite-on and all white is benq. no help there either, haha.

Not really sure what your trying to figure out here...PCB boards are definitely different and yeah FW is different for sure. Lasers on the other hand can be interchanged between the 2 drives....

The biggest difference is the hardware and work needed to dump the firmware/key before you can flash it.

There is 1 BenQ drive and so far 4 different Liteon drives.

Philips are one of the leaders of optical drives and basically came up with the idea. The optical parts of the drive will be Philips and the rest will be Lite-On or Benq.

Lite-On is more secure and more reliable than Benq.
