If the system that's being modded isn't a Jasper, this is suggested. The GPU @ 90nm produces a TON of heat. The heatsink on it doesn't have room to breathe because of the DVD rom's positioning in the case.
Also, the DVD roms shake quite a bit. This nasty jitter + excessive heat = RRoD.
Remove the jitter, remove the heat, and you'll be fine.

I've done the XCM Core Cooler V2. The fan that clips on top of the GPU extension is works great. The fan that clips onto the CPU heatsink is pointless. This will offer minimal gains. Also, the power being drawn is from the DVD rom ... which is a huge "no no". This was removed in a week.
I've done the Talismoon Whisper Legacy w. Nitro Switch. This thing is a hunk of $hit. The Nitro switch blew a resistor on my board and it's constantly on "high". This was removed in a day.
Best fan for the money? The Intercooler TS. Externally mounted and powered, so no robbing the console of energy. Also, it's thermal sensing. If the console is still hot after shutdown, the cooler is still "on".

Do 12v mod on the stock fans.
Maybe add more fans.
Skip the fans. The 12V mod may lead to an e78 error, or HDD mounting issues.
