Dumping 512mb Nand
« on: January 27, 2010, 01:40:00 PM »

It turns out that my 256MB jasper is actually a 512MB, and dumping whole 512MB nand will take up to 18 hours via LPT. Is it necessary to dump the whole thing?

no only the first 70mb, and less if you use a different method like XeLLous or Gentoo.

So nandpro lpt: -r70 dump.bin will be enough to fix xbox in case of a bad write?

Yes

But if you want a 100% guarantee, dump the entire image twice.

Weird, I'm not getting errors while dumping, but two dumps of the same part of nand have a lot of differences.

One more thing, if I can't dump a correct nand (I can reconstruct it with Nand Compare - which I did), how can I write anything back to Xbox? Will that have bad blocks too or not? I mean if reading is erroneous, why should writing be successful?

Wait a second are you using my method??? How did you determine your nand is not correct, hex editor or fc command???

What type of cable setup do you have, did you use an rj45 cable? One more thing, NandCompare is a last ditch effort and should never be use in place of actually dumping two matching dump. You need to be able to dump at least two to three matching dumps. NandCompare is suppose to be for those people that have erased their nand and have no other methods of getting the original. Don't use NandCompare to avoid doing a job right because your just going to end up with a brick.

Can you list your bad blocks or programming errors.

Can you take a quick picture of your cable setup and share....

PS from my personal experience, my first dump never match my second. But my second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh all match.

to make the dump quicker try the following if your using my tutorial..

nandpro lpt: -r256 c1.bin 0 75
nandpro lpt: -r256 c2.bin 0 75
nandpro lpt: -r256 c3.bin 0 75
nandpro lpt: -r256 c4.bin 0 75

compare those files and get back to me...

Yes, I'm using your guide. I will report after exectuing those commands. Sadly I can't take a good picture of my cable setup. It's basic LPT calbe with wires soldered to the mainboard.

EDIT 1: So far I dumped it twice and both files are identical wink.gif I will keep dumping.
EDIT 2: Third dump and still matches previous two.

Just as I suspected, I am assuming your LPT cable like all has the silver shield?

This shield needs to be grounded this is why your dumps are never the same when you dump the higher blocks, anyways connect a cable from the XBOX case to the shield, that should fix the issue I have a lot of success with this. And then proceed doing the R3 command as outline in the tutorial.. if for whatever reason you can't connect the shield to the xbox case then try having the xbox case touch your computer case that should help....

RESPONSE TO EDIT 2:
Awesome this is good, please do the following and do the R3 command twice, and tell me there are difference:

nandpro lpt: -r3 d1.bin
nandpro lpt: -r3 d2.bin
nandpro lpt: -r3 d3.bin

if those match then were seating pretty...

if you like then send me c1.bin, c2.bin and d1.bin and d2.bin and I confirm everything is ok... I'll pm you my email.

About ground, do you mean connecting the Xbox's metal case with shield in cable?

I will send it to you if it won't match and as soon as I finish the second 3MB dump.

Yes, or have the xbox metal case touching a metal part of your pc case, be careful only to touch cases to case and nothing else. That should help get matching dumps when you do the following commands:

nandpro lpt: -r3 d1.bin
nandpro lpt: -r3 d2.bin

PS that shield is suppose to be grounded, and right now you have it floating can you see why that would cause issues??? Sounds good let me know as soon as you can if they match... .
