128mb Come On In
« on: January 01, 2005, 05:58:00 PM »

I tryed to compair a regular xbox to my 128mb xbox with the 256k cashe CPU. So far I havent seen any results at all. Is there a program that shows in game FPS so  I can get a good benchmark?

aren't games specifically designed to use xbox hardware?  Therefore only use 64 megs?

Thats kind of the different between version made for a console and versions made for a computer.  A computer based game will take advtantage of better hardware and more ram, but an xbox game was designed to use what they put in an xbox.

I assumed xbox games wouldn't recieve any benefit from more ram.  I figured the extra ram would only come in handy for home brew apps and stuff, or if you're running linux or something.

why do you think hes been patching them with the RAM delimit tool?  this makes the xbe into a debug version. xbox dev/debug kits have 128mb of ram.  debug versions of the xbe now think they can use upto 128mb improving performance.

as for the actual question at hand, the xbox cant multitask, so no there is no app that you can run in the background to give you fps or ram usage.  your best bet would be trying to find a hombrew app that will let you display the fps or free memory.  i know xbmc will let you add the <freemem=yes /> tag to xboxmediacenter.xml to display free memory, but im not sure what would show you fps, maybe an emu.

I've never messed around with a debug BIOS, but you'll need to use one to start viewing RAM/FPS/etc statistics.  I can't view the following links (blocked at work) but here's a start.

So what is the ram delimit tool? some kinda of fake program released by firendtech to increase sales. True the game were made for 64mbs of memory, but I know there is more then 64m of instruction that can be stored and that there just is not enough people with the ram upgrade from someone to make an app to use more memory.

Would the ram increase work in a program like mame, i have some neo geo games that would not load, because not enough ram, i was wondering if adding the ram upgrade would fix this.

mame runs a lot better, neogeo games mostly run without any lag
most games are a lot smoother

perfect dark on n64 is playable!, it just wont run on a 64 meg xbox

Linux flies - really!, it's a hell of a lot faster than 64 meg xboxes,
i'd compare the difference to a PC running xp with 128 meg of ram compared to one with 512, its a world of difference

and XBMC plays (streams) films over a very saturated network, with no stuttering as it has a lot more memory to cache

There are realy 3 different Firendtech xdreams that have differnt configs

Xdream 733- regular xbox cpus and 128mbs memory (replaced by bravo)
Xdream Bravo-New Intel 733 with 256k cashe instead of 128k
Xdream 1480-Celeron 1.4GHz and 128mb (Plays xbox game to fast, unplayable)

Anyhow I got the bravo and havnt realy noticed any performance. Is there a way to force AA on some game? I figure the increase in power will allow for better filtering.

I dont know?

Does anyone have a 128mb xbox besides me?

That sucks... (about the emulators)

I payed 500 for my xdream bravo

It came with:
Xbox
New Intel 733MHz P3 with 256k cashe instead of 128k
128mbs of memory
ATA-100 Cable
120GB HD
Premodded with media-key
Evox installed
A Skin
A Xbox S controler
Powercord
Some nice A/V cables with S-video

It rips games right out of the box. How do they do it? If u press the power button it goes to MS dashboard but if hold it down for 5 sec it loads Xecuter2.
