ixtreme is actually a newer version then xtreme5.3. when the i was added to the beginning of the firmware name, they restarted the version number at 1.0.

ixtreme doesn't boot unstealthed backups, and as such it is safer for use on xbox live. it can't make backups of discs, but it is possible to make backups from your pc using a samsung SH-162C drive (search for kreon firmware for more info). when making backups this way, it saves you the trouble of taking your system apart for each game you want to backup.
