360 Pro And The Elite... Whats The Differences?
« on: October 15, 2007, 10:25:00 AM »

Whats the difference between the 360 Pro and the Elite? From MS website the only thing I can really tell is that the Elite comes with a 120GB HD, its black, and it comes with a HDMI cable. Is there anything else that I am missing?

thats the jist of it. bear in mind that all elites have an hdmi port, and only the newer pro's have it.

HDMI port is the only thing I really care about. Now someone just told me that the HD output on an Elite is better then on a Pro. Is that true?

Also is the 20Gb HD enough for an average user?

No its not true. If the pro has the HDMI output like all the new ones do then video output would be the same.

it depends on who you ask. i personally have 8 gigs free on my harddrive, and i do all kinds of xbox live arcade stuff, and download all the free gamerpics/themes, and the occasional trailer. i don't really download game demo's. for me, the 20 gig harddrive is fine. for other people, it is a constraint. personally, i am the kind of person who likes to be ready for the future and would have gotten a 120gb drive had it been available on launch night when i got my system.

So its not true that the Elite will give you 1080p while the Pro will only give you 1080i?

hmmm.... thats a good point. I would hate to have to buy a second HD later. But is it really worth the extra 100 bucks or should I just pick up the new 360 Arcade version? From what I have read it has HDMI and then I could  just get the bigger hard drive separate.

originally the pro only supported 1080i. a firmware revision a year or so ago (which will be a required installation to play any recent games or connect to live) introduced the ability to output at 1080p. the elite came out after this was released already, and as such just had the firmware revision preinstalled out of the box.

i personally think its worth it. don't forget how much the harddrive is by itself. also i'm not sure what the arcade pack comes with for accessories. the core pack came with a wired controller, no hd video cables, no ethernet cable (the pro actually came with a VERY nice cable, long and well insulated, which is why i mention it), no xbl headset, and as such, you should verify how much of that has changed with the arcade pack.

Also keep in mind the new motherboards with the HDMI do DVD upscaling too.

The older non HDMI boards also upscaled to 1080p through VGA output.

Alright so I think im just going to stick with the 360 Pro and if I ever need to upgrade to the larger HD I will. Is the connection on the back of the 360 a standard HDMI connection or do I need to get a special 360 cable?

is a regular HDMI connector, but look at the box before you buy your system. there will be an HDMI marker on the newer systems box, and the non-hdmi (older pro's) won't have the logo.
