0020 Fix - Twistedsymphony Your Going To Love This
« on: October 03, 2007, 06:58:00 PM »

the 0020 ERROR is couse by presure to the CPU but only on one side the upper side , presuring that side give you the 0020

first after reparing a lots of console i haven't had a 0020 code but lately i had two iwas going crazy becouse i did the x-clamp on both and the eracer on the memories chip

after changing all that i found out that i had no more 0102 but 0020 came up
so i try chaging thermal paste that didnt work

finaly i start testing the presure on both the gpu and cpu for hours and finaly
gpu really tight and the cpu botton nuts tight,   TOP no to tight , ( play whit it until the error is gone)

no problem

so the 0020 error is comming from the CPU NOT GPU

i got i picture but no time to uploaded it

Yea, you just got to tighten them and loosen them, have a fiddle, then it should be right.

You said you repaired lots of consoles so is that eraser mod the real deal? Or should I look for thermal pads?

Is there a good, better, best when it comes to cooling the memory chips?

yeah it works
when you got a console freezing in game its becouse of memory heat problems, so u use the erazer mod or the penny mod i haven't try the penny mod but i frind told it works

3 RED LIGHT OF DEATH

EZ   First - take the x-clamp off and put some termal paste on turn it on it will show the ligts again , wait 3 minutes whit the red lights
it looks like the system need to detect that the problem have benn fixed , turn in off and turn it back on
it should run

if it still shows the 3 red lights then do the erazer mod whit doble face tape

try bending the x-clamp before repleacing it whit the x-clamp mod

importante every time u get 3 red lights check the codes first every single time
becouse if u tight the nuts to much u will get 0020 on the cpu if u losen it to much u wull get an 0102
and dont put to much termal paste on it

I'm not calling you a liar, but the majority, from what I've seen at least, including myself, agree that 0020 is a GPU problem. 0020 was cause by the GPU heatsink being *TOO* tight in my case. You probably just tightened your CPU heatsink, which, in turn cause the board to flex, and relieved a small amount of pressure from the GPU side. You should loosen both sides up a tad bit and see if it stays "fixed".

I've reflowed numerous 360's and I've yet to have a 0020 error that was not GPU related.

I just bought a broken one on ebay and it did the same thing. At first the error was 0102 and then afterwards was 0020. The problem was the bolts were too tight. I have got the system booting up now but it is still overheating after a couple of minutes. I think the problem is that i didn't put any new thermal grease on it and with messing with it there is not enough touching the chips now. Does this sound like a plausible cause?

You have to put new thermal paste on there, Killazincorp. By removing the heatsinks you're essentially breaking the connection between the heatsink and the chip, the old crappy MS thermal paste that's on there is dried out and not doing it's job now.
