HDMI includes the video and audio data in one cable. so the usual way would be to connect the xbox to your a/v receiver (surround sound box), then connect that to your tv (using all hdmi cables).

but im sure there will be a way to get optical digital audio out of it even with the hdmi connector

The thing about using two hdmi cables, is that i don't have an output for hdmi on my receiver....  I understand that the HDMI is a connection for both audio and video.  Thats why i'm asking for suggestions.

output or input do you mean?

currently the optical output of the 360 is on the component cable

so if they bring out an hdmi one... is the optical out going to be incorporated into the cable also as the receiver doesnt have hdmi input

well if thats the case, then it will have to be a non-standard hdmi cable wont it?

the other option is to have an 'optical only' plug for the normal a/v output. you could of course, still have your component plugged it, it would still output the optical audio
