Good Tv For Xbox 360?
« on: November 25, 2005, 01:54:00 PM »

I'm going to get a new TV for my 360.
Can someone please check out the specs on this TV? http://www.soyousa.c...desc.php?id=325
Would it be the be all end all solution for 360? I can get this TV at a meager price of $799.
If someone could point out some pros and cons, it'd be helpful. Thanks.

It looks good to me. From what i've seen at the stores, LCD HDTV's are prob the best tvs that you can get for a 360. All the stores are using LCDs.

Not really. Obviously this has always been a big heated debate, but the fact that LCD, Plasma, DLP, etc (all but CRT) are progressive scan natively, and the native display of the one the poster linked is just above 1280x720 (720p), 720p will likely make the most sense.

Why send it an interlaced higher signal, to have the tv de-interlace it and convert it back to close to its native res of 720p?

Also, the fact that all of the X360's are using LCD TV's is because that's the one they chose to go with with the kiosk, and they likely got a nice discount for buying a ton of them.

So, 1080i if using a CRT (monitor, CRT based rear projection TV) 720p for just about everything else. (DLP, dILA, LCD, LCD Projection, LCOS, etc)

Well, it seems I've got a number of good comments on this TV. Not to mention some great reviews about it.
However, I've never had a widescreen TV before. What would regular cable look like from Cablevision?
Or how about X360 games, will they take up the entire widescreen? Or will there be black bars somewhere?

360 games will be beautiful on this set (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
720p output from the xbox is close enough to this set's native res(1280x720 -> 1366x768). you can either get a vga adapter and set the res. output to 1360x768 and have the xbox do the scaling, or you can just use component cables and this tv will do the minimal upscale. widescreen is good too.

OK, I understand.
How much of a difference is there when upscaling from 1366x768 to 1280x720? Or the other way around?

Don't listen to these noobs.  LCD's are the WORST type of TV for gaming.  Their refresh rates are over 4x longer than the average plasma.  You will NOT see crisp pictures in action sequences.  You will see ghosting all over the place.

Here is the pecking order.

CRT (The Sony SXRD's are beautiful)
Plasma (No burn-in issues with newest generations)
DLP (Small quality loss from Plasma)
LCT last.

The refresh rate for that LCD TV is 8ms. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)
8!
