As most know already, I REALLY love my new Samsung CRT and that was $900 (I paid $700).  It does 480p and 1080i standard and *might* do 720p... I just don't know for certain as the spec sheet is a little ambiguous.  I really recommend a Samsung or Toshiba.

I have a RCA 40" HDTV that supports 480p and 1080i(don't think it supports 720p). Anyways it is an awesome tv, has plenty of connectors(including DVI), and it was about $1000 at walmart.

I just looked at walmart, and here is a TV similiar to the one I got. It is 52" though, instead of 40', and is $1194.

Doesn't RCA use Plastic clips to hold the lenses??? I know Magnovox does and thus causing issues after about a year of good use.  When I bought my HDTV I actually went and looked a 51" Magnovox that was HD and after looking at the picture quality I went with a 55" mitsubishi which had way better quality and from all the research I found didn't fail as often... yes I could have went with a LCD or plasma but some people have to shop wisely being that i'm not totally rich and have other bills... here's a picture of my TV I even got the 5yr. warranty on it just to be on the safe side... not saying how much but it was a dang good deal...

Nothing against you Sp3cialk, but in my experience, Mitsu's are junk.  Perhaps you're one of the lucky ones... or I'm one of the unlucky ones... but their TV's are sub-par, IMO.  I think it was very wise of you to buy the service plan.  beerchug.gif  Not a fan of their cars either now that I think about it.

I've seen 720p and 1080i in person and there isn't that much of a difference, so if you can't find a 720p television, don't feel obligated to lean towards a 1080i.

Hey man.  That tv should be good enough.  I got an hd right down stairs and have played with all kinds of games on xbox.  Ones that just do 480p, and the few that do 720p.  Some do 1080i.  I have to say that I thought 720p would be better, but the 1080i is more sharper and detailed than when I just run the 720p mode on xbox.  This is the same with ps2 and gamecube also.  It just looks better in 1080i.  I think in the future it will be the same.  If I had known that 1080i was this good, I would have saved the 300 extra bucks and bought a 1080i only tv.  So in short, that tv should be kick ass enough for you man.

Even if you don't get 720p, 1080i is very nice as well.

That doesn't mean 720p is horrible, but for crts, having 720p upconvert to 1080i is basically a must because 1080i is much superior on a crt than 1080i on an lcd or plasma. Lcds and plasmas are better at the progressive stuff.

Yeah for CRT's, t most likely won't natively display 720p, but make sure it can at least upconvert it to 1080i.
