According to Chart-Track [UK] estimates, GTA IV first day sales were 609,000 units - eclipsing the record of 501,000 units set by GTA: San Andreas in 2004.

GTA IV also set a record for first day sales Xbox 360 software, with 335,000 units. The prior record, set last September by Halo 3, was 266,000 units.
The PS3 version of GTA IV sold 274,000 units in the UK on day one.

Sales have also been brisk in Europe, along with Chart Tracks report of 600,000 copies sold in the UK in one day, VG Chartz estimates that around 1.7 million units were sold across Europe and others on day one - the format split is roughly a mirror image of the Americas, with around 60% of all European sales being on PS3.

With the numbers that close, it would seem a larger percentage of PS3 owners bought it (unless many of them purchased a PS3 the same day).

Wicked numbers for the ps3, 1/4 of all ps3 owners bought GTA IV on day one. . .

(Remember that 360 user base is 2:1 to the ps3 in UK)

There's a 61000 units sales gap between the two which isn't that close. Impressive sales for both consoles anyway. Awesome game too

about time something beat that Overated3 game (i.e. Halo3) cause i find out of all the mainstream games, GTA series is probably by far the most fun. (MAFIA (on PC) is better than GTA though but i dont think MAFIA has mainstream popularity like GTA does so i did not mention that pretty much)

cause Halo is 'just another shooter' if you ask me as there's MANY shooter games (on PC) that are much more 'fun' than Halo series is in general.

Well, to be fair the attach rate is higher for the PS3, which would suggest that GTA IV helps the PS3 more than it helps the Xbox 360.

The really sad part is that Microsoft spent $50 million dollars to get the exclusive DLC, and they have done a piss poor job of promoting the fact that they will basically have 2 exclusive GTA IV episodes which will only be playable on the Xbox 360.

If they had promoted the DLC better, they would have and should have sold many more units. I personally bought the Xbox 360 version specifically for the DLC, and I would suspect that it would probably help sell more Xbox 360s to those that are buying a next gen system specifically for this game if they were to advertise that fact more effectively at retail.

? The X360 attach rate was & still is higher than The Wii & PS3 combined

The overall attach rate may be, but for GTA IV it looks like in the UK at least the attach rate is higher for the PS3 than for the 360.
Either way, the game is selling well on both platforms.
