Lucas Arts + Mech Assault Developer = Coming Soon?

August 8, 2006 - Day 1 Studios, the minds behind the MechAssault series, has partnered with LucasArts to create a new game based on a fresh property, the publisher announced today. The new title, which LucasArts describes as offering "ground-breaking gameplay," is in development for next-generation consoles.

As for specifics, both companies are being decidedly coy. Given Day 1's experience with both multiplayer combat and MS's first console, it wouldn't be surprising if the new game offers plenty of online action as well as support for the Xbox 360.

"LucasArts is determined to deliver outstanding new ideas to next-generation consoles, and our partnership with the great people at Day 1 Studios creates another opportunity for us to bring innovation and creativity to the market," said Peter Hirschmann, Vice President of Product Development at LucasArts. "The phenomenal technology created by Day 1 directly affects gameplay in extremely innovative ways -- and it perfectly complements the engaging story and intriguing characters you'd expect of a LucasArts title."

Day 1 Studios is known for MechAssault (2002), one of the first Xbox games to take advantage of not just Xbox Live online play, but downloadable content such as new maps. MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf arrived late in 2004.
