unsure frescoelamante688, haven't had the chance to crack it open (i'm @ work).  the previous owner said it worked fine but then started "flashing green and red" so he opened it up "to make sure all the cables were connected" he also said there was no modchip...

could be a big phat lie tho  tongue.gif

sounds like a currupted eeprom. post in the general hardware/technical chat and ask what to do if you bought an xbox with a corrupted eeprom.

Sweet man will do.  Once I actually open it up and take a look inside, hopefully I can narrow it down (i.e. look for a modchip soldering attempt)  Any other things I can look for or test (i have a multimeter) to determine why it FRAGs? (assuming it is not the EEPROM)

Thanks!

First thing to do is look at the LPC and the d0 for any damage...
There is an LPC diagnostic in the tut section that is pretty good.

If the lpc looks untouched & there are no scratches around the d0 (A lot of solderless chips will scratch the d0 trace or a nearby trace) Take a voltage meeter to the power supply & see that you are getting all the right voltage. If you have a second supply, you can part swap...

Also check for a bad tsop flash...  (any soldering etc at the tsop read wright points...

If none of this pans out, hipo has a cheap cip that will reprogram the eprom if you suspect that....

Awesome thedustycelt, those are the kinda tips I was looking for!  I do have my own xbox so I can swap any parts I want (including modchip)  Could you link me to that LPC diagnostic tut, couldn't find it in the pins for this forum.

Would putting in a modchip be a good way to test if the EEPROM is bad, or am I confusing that with the TSOP?

Thanks!

The link to the lpc diagnostic tut is here...

http://www.xbox-scen...es/lpc-diag.php

I preffer the following picture for tracing out the traces...

user posted image

remember that some of the traces to the lpc points go to two locations, not just one. follow the trace with your eye...

I highly doubt it's the eeprom. Usualy a bad/corupt eeprom will give you a constat red flash.
It might be software related or chip install related. You'll have to see when you open it up. Look at all the solder points as stated above and see if there was a chip installed. We need more clues to give better ideas of what the xb's problem is so open it up asap. biggrin.gif

I forgot about the constant red flash for a corupt eprom...

So like plyboy said, that is probably not the problem...

Have fun with the repair!

Worse case senario, you ressel it on ebay and still make a profit...

They generaly sell for at least twice that with all the parts...
