You won't see anything being typed in the password box, you're not supposed to. Just type and hit enter for username, the type and hit enter for password, the password box will look like it's empty, jus how it works.

Im having a problem when I try to run the apt-get install kdebase.  When I run it this is what im getting spat out at me.

Reading package lists...Done
Building Dependency Tree...Done
Some packages could not be installed.  This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distrobution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdebase: Depends: kdeprint (>=4:3.2.0-0woody1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Sorry, broken packages.

Any help at all would be appriciated.  Thanks.

B.T.W.
Im running Ed's Xebian v. 1.0.2

*Edit*

After a while of banging my head against the wall I figured it out.

I installed xebian last night and everything seems to work fine except that my display scrolls vertically and is in green and black.

I have a 1.4 box with focus and I'm using the HDTV out.

any suggestions?

I have a similar prob.  Im attemting to install Xebian 1.0.2 on my v1.4 xbox modded with the X2.3pro.   The cd i burned with the 1.0.2.iso image seems to boot fine, but the screen is flickering and I cant read anything on it.  I can barely see the emulated keyboard once it gets to the login screen.  Does 800*600 have anything to do with this?  If so, where can i change it?

I found this website and followed the instructions.  I don't get flickering during booting but now I don't see x windows.

my 1 and only reason for wanting to install linux is web surfing,,,,

since i got rid of my laptop i miss sitting out in the living room surfing.

so  if i choose the option for the E drive install   it only uses folders correct ??  it dont partition anything  right ?

next  does this install take over my xbox as the default dashboard cuz if it does then screw it i dont want it....

all i need is an application i can run from time to time when i want to get online with my xbox.  and links-box isnt it,,,  i mean the application not the links box thats in linux.

anyways i want to make this a safe and easy install without messing up anything on my xbox.

is this what the E drive install does,, jsut installs as an Application and not a dashboard ??

the latest version is 1.1.0  and im totally lost.

there is boot_fatx_e.iso   and boot_hdd.iso  both contain the same stuff.  so i'm lost.

do i take the entire  Xebian 1.1.0 tar file and extract everything
then burn WHICH iso ???
unpack WHICH iso and put it on my HDD  ??
or unpack everything to the HDD  ???  and then run the defualt.xbe file thats in the root of the tar.gz file ??
lost  lost lost   all the files contain the same stuff

the Tar file already has defualt.xbe  linuxboot.cfg  and all the other stuff in it  along with those other 2 iso's

so basically im screwed and totally lost.

the tutorial needs to be really revamped to reflect the latest version if the autor gets a chance.

i have no idea whats going on  (yes that was a towelie joke)
