Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Has Stopped Working
« on: December 12, 2007, 07:19:00 PM »

I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate.  I shared my videos on my PC with my 360 via media player 11.  It worked for the first couple days but now every time I browse through my videos on my 360 (normally via dashboard, not media center extender), I got teh rotating circle for a while then my PC gets a popup saying:

"windows media player network sharing service has stopped working"

So I open up WMP11 again through share my media to restart this service, but it keeps doing this no matter what folder I browse to or try to play.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I looked around and couldn't find a way to reinstall windows media player 11 on Vista (I guess its built into Vista  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) )

Thanks in advance!

Im having the same problem.
every time i try to open one of my videos or folders NOTHING!
you can download WMP 11 from the M$ downloads page but im not sure if that will help.
If anyone knows anything that might help that would be sweet.

I got it!
Just try removing and adding your 360 from your windows media CENTRE again and see how you go from there.
now i can play all my videos straight off the dashboard smile.gif

I have this same problem and have looked for days for a fix with no luck if anyone has any more info on this problem please let us know.

My problem seems to be with the xbox trying to get a thumbnail preview of the video files.

well, ever since i hooked my 360 up and tried streaming music, its been flaky, but it had been working. and the sharing service had been fine too. now all of a sudden whenever i turn my PC on, i get a box saying that both it and the zune sharing service have stopped working. i tried going to services.msc and enabling it again, but it stops within 5 seconds of enabling it.

anyone know what's up?

edit - well, i went googling again and found this

http://forums.techar...ad.php?t=797340

apparently the mf.dll file gets corrupted. but the only way to fix it is reinstall windows. unless someone here can post it up for d/l. websites i checked have it for d/l if you pay like 10 bucks.

hi there

i am also having the same issue, it started month or so back

i have 2 xbox's and change hard disk from 1 to another, i thought at 1st this was the issue but it wasnt , especially as from memory this started happening once i updated to the new dashboard with the mii lookalike thing.

well last night i have fixed my issue and thought i would share the fix & hopefully this will help others

on my media pc that i use for streaming, it has all the latest windows updates including service pack 3 im using windows xp media centre 32bit as at first i thought this also could be the issue. once done this, still the same outcome....BUT viewing folder structure was alot quicker!

i have installed the latest ffdshow codecs on my pc and rebooted, and as paul daniels would say "thats magic"

it all started working!!! biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

heres the link where i downloaded the codec package, hope this helps others

Hi Guys

I was having the same problem. Found the following on another Forum, worked like a charm. smile.gif

Hope it works for you.

Got it... it is a DRM issue.
1) Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM.
2) Go to tools\Folder Options
3) Select the View Tab
4) select Show Hidden Files and Folders
5) Uncheck the box that says "Hide Protected Operating system files"
Click apply and OK
Refresh the view and you should see files in the DRM folde.
Move the files to the recycle bin
Now enable sharing in Media player
your problem should be resolved.
