Avi Conversion With Winavi
« on: February 03, 2020, 02:14:00 AM »

Im right now converting a few files to avi with WinAvi 8.

It has an option to encode to HD-AVI DIVX, 1280x720. MP3 4400-224

I did a few test files with an mkv and an mpeg-2 and they looked real nice on my PC.

My 360 is banned. so I cant test on console until tommorrow on my sons 360 that just palyed a 4.5-gig
rip of Cars-BluRay, and it looked incredible !!.....much cleaner than a WMV-rip

Anyone else who plays around with this...post your results....it just might be what we've all been looking for to get around all these recoding issues !!

Just checked the file I encoded which was the "minisodes" from Battlestar Galactica-Razor which I had encoded from 2 channel to 5.1 with Nero-Vision.....

Video: DivX 5 1280x720 30.00fps [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 5ch 448Kbps [Audio 0]

So...yes it maintains 5.1, and it looks great and sounds grat and it was quick and easy !!

Going to try a whole movie tonight.....the minisode was only 19 minutes long.

Why are you converting to HD-AVI? Is that recognized by the Xbox 360, or do you still have to transcode?

Because as I stated (sort of) after the new dash-update the 360 now plays HD-AVI

I for one and many others have had a hell of a time trying to do WMV conversions...they just take too long and are prone to problems.

This method is really fast and produced a high-quality result also with those pesky HD-mkv files, of which I have a few hundred.

It also is a better solution than all this converting to mp4 I see going on......

On a side note, the newsgroups are full of HD rips for the PS3, in mp4 with 5.1

Makes me almost want to buy one

so you have tested out the 5.1 surround? cause if so- this seems like the best way to convert... Also do you think the picture is just as high quality as .mp4

I tried getting the 5.1 sound but I don't think it worked, b/c I open the file up and it says it is 2 channel, even though my source file is 5 channel.. How did you do it?
