Microsoft's Canadian Xbox 360 guru, Jade, has unveiled some new details on the Canadian version of the the Xbox Live Video Marketplace launching next week.

For Library titles (read: old), standard definition runs 310 MS Points, while high definition movies will cost 460 MS Points. For Current titles (new releases), SD movies will cost 460 points and HD will cost 610 points. In other words, Canadians are paying significantly more than Americans, who pay 240 or 360 points for older films, and 360 or 480 for new releases. So, Canadians spend nearly $9 on an HD new release compared to $6 American.

I, for one, am all for new ways of getting content. I cant stand theaters anymore because of rude people, and having to pay to watch Nissan and Pepsi commercials. Blockbuster ruined Sattelite pay-per-veiw, so I hate them, and I am sick of the MPAA trying to figure ways of getting blood out of us all.

Is there a time-bomb on the downloads? Like so you have only a certain amount of time before the content is inaccessable? And when they say HD do they mean 1080p? If not what res and codec are they using? I have 12mb cable internet, but I cannot see them serving 25-50GB files.

It is now:

$1 USD = 1.00535
$1 CAD = 0.99468

According to the article, new HD content will cost 610 points. That equates to $9.75 CAD compared to 460 points (or $5.75 USD).

Its a $4 difference.

UK has video marketplace as well, right?

Is the marketplace carrying Doctor Who (original or new)?

Well in Ontario here, to rent a Rogers HD on demand movie is $7.99 + taxes for 24 hrs as well.  MS includes the taxes in their prices, and is probably just using a base price assuming the dollar will go down again.  The MS price is fairly close.  Bottom line.. if you don't like it, don't pay for it.  Personally, I use my A$$box for games mostly, and streaming MP3s'.

Not yet, comes out here on the 11th December (this Tuesday) CLICKY.

Full length SD films will be 250 MSP (£2 = $4.05 USD)
Full length HD films will be 380 MSP (£3.20 =$6.49 USD)

Its all a big rip off anyway since M$ make you buy points in bundles of 500 for £4.25. So when you buy something you're left with a useless number of points and need to buy another 500 just to be able to purchace something you only needed an extra 100MSP for. For example if I want to dl and watch 2 HD films and have no points to begin with it'll actually cost me £8.50 not £6.40 like it should.
