Xbmc/kai Can't Find My Game On The Hard Drive
« on: March 05, 2006, 04:44:00 AM »

okay.. im trying to Play Halo2 via the XMBC/Kai interface but I get an error saying that it cant find the game on my hard drive and to insert the Disc.... if I insert the Halo2 disc, then it works fine, but id prefer to play off the HDD.. if I try to play via the game's system link menu, the game works fine too, so I think its a setting problem or something with XBMC, i dont see an option anywhere to point XBMC to my games directory... any help?

XBMC 2-26-06 version
Kai XLink 7
Halo is stored on F:/Games

yea if u have a new build of XBMC then go to settings>My Apps>Xlink Kai....and ther should be a hthing where u cane change the derecctory that it looks in

if u do not have that connect to your FTP and transfer over ,settings.xml, in E:\TDATA\0face008
open it up in notepad and scroll all of the way down and u will see the code for kai..... make it look like this

CODE

        true
        true
        f:\games
        *****
        192.168.*.***
        Your Username

make sure that <GamesDir> is at f:\games or were ever you have halo at

well actually thats wrong, between different xbox's, mine reads from the E:\ folder. its just where you start to save the game. but if your xbox cant find it in E:\, then its in F:\, or somewhere else, but thats unlikely. biggrin.gif

i've also experienced this same problem with the most recent build of t3ch xbmc (2006-02-26). games show up in the list of available games, but when i try to play the game using the button on the left, xlink cannot locate the game on the hard drive. this latest build of xbmc doesn't have an option to set the path for kai to search for games. i've tried editing the settings.xml file, but the file is always overwritten.

thats the problem ive found with XBMC, when you try to play a game, its way to complecated, your not sure if its loading or if its just frozen, or anything like that.
If i where you i would go to The Xbox360hackers X-disk v1.0, once downloaded, its ready to burn onto a DVD-R disk (for xbox) as i was saying, once downloaded its ready to go, its already in ISO form. here are what the disk includes.

Also, its ready to install, when you put in the disk, you select "dash boards" then "install" and it makes your dash by its-self.

My point is, try using a different dashboad for Running games. And XBMC for Xlink KaI.

i think xbmc works fine for my purposes at least. i;ve never had a problem using kai on xbmc until i updated to the last build. there might have been some changes that must have affected kai.

every other game works fine from the play button but i have to use the disc with 25 to life and its canny irritating.
all my games are in f:\games and the .xml points kai to f:\ games so what could be wrong?

I see the format here for directing kai to look in f:\games for the games on the HDD. What is the correct format in this case to make Kai look in both f:\games and g:\games? I'm not sure how to write that correctly in the string.

Wouldn't it just be:

<XLinkKai>
<EnableNotifications>true</EnableNotifications>
<Enabled>true</Enabled>
<GamesDir>f:\games, g:\games</GamesDir>
<Password>*****</Password>
<Server>192.168.*.***</Server>
<UserName>Your Username</UserName>
</XLinkKai>

like with the bookmarks? or can it only search one directory?

This is driving me mad

I formated my drive and install the T3CH XBMC CVS 2006-03-06 (6th of March 2006) release

I also made sure all the settings were correct (already discussed in this thread) and pointed to my "f:\games" folder

But when i launch a game (far cry)  via xlink it tells me to insert the disk, it does work this way but i want it to boot off the hard drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or is it down to T3CH releases?

I have this problem with Halo2, but instead of putting the disk in, I back out of xlink (BACK BUTTON) and then go to my games on the hard drive and manually start the game from there.  You don't need the disk. I hope this helps. I know that auto launching the game when selecting PLAY would be the best, but you still can your BACKUP image.

to all the stubborn folks who kept saying to properly change/add directories in xbmc: there was an error w/ xbmc itself in the last few CVS builds.

the error has been fixed (and i've tried it myself) in the lastest March 12th 2006 Cvs Build as documented in the release notes

also, as i;ve read on the xbmc forums and by looking in xbmc itself, there is no longer a setting/option to put the games directory as it is no longer needed.
