Xbox Fan 7v -> 12v Questions
« on: April 03, 2003, 09:13:00 AM »

Im at work so I'm going to try this as soon as I get home but from what I've read on this forum it seems almost too easy.  I have a 4pin to 3 pin adapter I can use to draw 12V from the HDD power to power the fan but Im curious about how the xbox handles fan failure as the fan will no longer be plugged into the motherboad connector.  I guess the xbox doesn't check for a load on this connector?  Seems kinda stupid not to check.

It'll work. The fan failure thing is for the GPU fan, if it's not there then it does power up. I have had my rear fan stop, and the console overheated which caused it to shut down.

Do you know at what temp the xbox shuts down, roughly?

No, all I know is it's extremely hot! My paint got tacky, and the glue on the rubber feet melted, so it's pretty hot. Fire-hazard hot. I'm surprised mine still runs.

It's kinda loud.  Unless you're playing the game with a great sound system and you have the volume cranked up you will really hear it.  I think it might be a bit too much for the long run, I might just put in a resistor/pot to drop the voltage.
