During a press conference, Sheriff Ben Johnson said the killings had been over a video-game system and some clothes.
He was referring to an Xbox system that belonged to Victorino, who had been illegally staying in a Providence Boulevard house that belonged to 22-year-old Erin Belanger's grandparents.
When Belanger discovered the squatters, she called police and boxed up the belongings.
Investigators said Victorino wanted to get his stuff back.
But other motives have been claimed as well.
At least one other witness has said the attack was fueled by missing cocaine, but investigators never recovered any during the investigation.
Another said Victorino was enraged after spotting people wearing his clothes.
Others who know the accused ringleader said the attack was triggered by Victorino's anger over being disrespected.
Did a movie inspire attack?
In the based-on-a-true-story movie Wonderland, a group of men wielding steel pipes and at least one baseball bat burst into a home and beat to death everyone inside. The attack left behind a grisly scene on Wonderland Avenue in Los Angeles. John Holmes, a well-known porn star, was acquitted in a 1981 trial.
Investigators found that movie at the home where Victorino was staying. One witness who was asked to participate in the Deltona killings said Victorino based his plan on a movie.
"And then he [Victorino] said if we just went in the house and split up, 'cuz they have no weapons, that we could kill 'em easily," Brandon Graham told investigators. "Then he was like, 'and you gotta beat 'em bad to make 'em suffer.' "
Who was the target?
Investigators have said all along that Victorino was after Belanger, who boxed up the belongings she found in her grandparents' house. She was the most badly beaten, unidentifiable after the attack.
Other witnesses said Victorino was mad at Belanger's boyfriend, Francisco Ayo Roman, and he was the target.
One witness said he saw Victorino threaten Jonathan Gleason with a gun shortly before the killings.
Investigators have said Gleason simply was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had been staying with his friends at the home for a few days before he died in the attack.
