Added to pinned, but i still encurage you all to switch to XBMC as you wont get any official support for problems with XBMP.

I've been getting quite a few PM's about playing Real media on XBMP. So i wrote this quick newb guide.

As of xbmp build 2003-10-29 you can now play RealAudio and RealVideo files.

1: First download a build 29th of October or after from the "usual places."

2: Download the RealMedia dlls from the following location.

NEW ALT LINK:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/~alex/codecs/rp9wi...2codecs.tar.bz2

http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/mplayer...2codecs.tar.bz2

ftp://mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codec...2codecs.tar.bz2

OLD LINK: (Maybe Down)
http://ftp3.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/...2codecs.tar.bz2

3: Extract the contents of this .bz2 with WinRAR. This outputs the file rp9win32codecs.tar.tar.out

4: Rename this file (with windows file extensions shown) to rp9win32codecs.tar.tar and extract it again. You may not be able to see the file extension with your particualr setup, if this is the case open WinRAR first and open the file within it.

You should then end up with the following files.

CODE

73,766      atrc3260.dll
65,575      cook3260.dll
102,437    drv13260.dll
176,165    drv23260.dll
208,935    drv33260.dll
217,127    drv43260.dll
278,528    pncrt.dll
102,439    sipr3260.dll
49,152      tokr3260.dll

             11 File(s)      1,274,160 bytes

5: Extract XBMP you got from the usual places and transfer the above files to a folder called "dll"

e.g.  c:\XBMP\dll

6: Open up config.xml from the XBMP directory in Wordpad or any advanced text editor. (Some more simple text editors dont handle the text format very well.)

7: Setup all your share settings as usual then scroll down to the file extension section.

QUOTE
<extensions>
     <music>ac3|aac|nfo|pls|ram|rm|sc|mpa|wav|wma|ogg|mp3|mp2|m3u|cue</music>
     <videos>nfo|rm|m3u|ifo|mov|qt|divx|xvid|bivx|vob|pva|wmv|asf|asx|ogm|m2v|avi|bin|dat|mpg|mpeg|mkv|avc|vp3|svq3|nuv|viv|dv|fli|rmvb|rv</videos>
     <pictures>png|jpg|jpeg|bmp|gif|ico|tif|tiff|tga|pcx</pictures>
</extensions>

Make sure all the file extensions you desire to see in Xbmp are entered here as shown in BOLD. The order of extensions does not matter.

8: FTP into your Xbox and browse to E:. Delete the following folders.

      E:\TDATA\0face007
      E:\UDATA\face007

9: Rename your current Xbmp folder for backup purposes. (The one on your xbox.)

10: Transfer your xbmp folder complete with your new config.xml and your dll folder from your PC to your xbox.

11: Load up the new version and enjoy:)

I so far have tested RV13 RV20 RV30 RV40 (This is all the Real Video types ive ever seen) and as many RealAudio as i can get my hands on. The only thing i cannot get to work is the streaming of .ram files from the internet. (Note the difference between a streamed file and just a normal local file with a .ram extension.) Also some files cause the program to crash if the file is left to complete - solution: stop them just before the end ;)

There are some people who have found that forcing frame rate in decoder settings can help any poor fram rate videos.

I hope this helps anyone having trouble. If this all seems obvious to you GREAT! but not everyone understands what todo straight away :P

Any mistakes just let me know.

EDIT: Added some more links to the dlls. If after i edit the post i forget to update the \'s youll have to forgive me. Its a bad pain in the arse goin through puttin double slashes on everytime :D

I have had pretty major audio sync-ing problems when playing RV20's. They're fine when played through windows, but when played through XBMP, the audio can be out of sync by up to 2-3 seconds.

Also, it is not a consistant delay/advance. It seems to fluctuate in and out slowly, so adjusting the AV-Delay setting is only effective for a short amount of time.

I've tried forcing the framerate, hovewer this has had no effect.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Otherwise I'll have to go through and covert them all to another format (losing even more quality from what are already pretty standard encodings).

Am I the only one having problems with this?

I followed the instructions exactly on the CVS 2003-10-29 version of XBMP, but when I go to my videos and click on "HDD" or DVD-ROM the xbox freezes...
This didn't happen before, and "my music" and "my pictures" work fine...

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ed

It might have something todo with your config.xml file. There isnt much i can think of that would make it crash on one menu and not another and it not be a common problem.

Can you paste your config.xml here or in a PM to me. Make sure you preview your post and check that all slash's are correct. If they are missing, edit your post and put \\ where there should be \, this should make only one show up and hence look correct :)

@Pdexter, ive got some RV20, i just checked now and there isnt any sync probs for me. Im on a PAL box with the following decoder settings:

Drop Frames : Ticked
Force Frame Rate (FPS): Un-Ticked
Use PTS from BPS: Ticked
Use Pal60 where available: Un-Ticked (My tele doesnt support pal60 very well :( )
Anamorphic Source: Un-Ticket
Deinterlace: Un-Ticket
Force Non-interleaved: Un-Ticked

Auto-Sync: 30/100
Max PTS correction frame: 0.10

Here's my file.  The only things I changed from the default were changing the paths to point to the f: drive, and the alterations to get realplayer files to work,

any help would be appreciated!

Careful using the config file posted above the message board stripped out all th "\"'s so thare are none there where they should be..  if you want to submit a post that has "\"'s in it you have to put 2 "\"'s  like so: \\  :)

this part:

"8: FTP into your Xbox and browse to E:. Delete the following folders.

E:DATAface007
E:UDATAface007"

suppose to be E:TDATAface007

grab the dlls from

its missing the pncrt.dll, which can be had here

http://dll.yaroslavl...?lng=&in_char=P

get the second pncrt.dll file, it has the correct filesize
