put the command    set game "MOD"    in your config.cfg and autoexec.cfg

hmm i dont know to go from directx to sdl isnt that thing like software mode a step backwards?

on quake2x i can go to 8x antia and use som nice filters only problem is the mods
tho i do love lantus ports i think quake2x might be a waste of time

he might wanna check out the new SOS engine it sounds pretty cool has red faction like effects with dbz chars
