Hi All,
For the past week I've been reading everything I can on hacking this 1.4/1.5 xbox (PAL). There's alot of shit out there and it was a bit tricky for a n00b like me to digest and put together.. I wanted to use Morden's package however it wasn't built for 1.4/1.5 xboxes so that was a no go. Also I wanted to use the latest and greatest of everything ie. PBL 1.3.5i and EvoxM7 which I read works.
Anyways, here's my step by step guide to installing the audio exploit on my 1.4/1.5 xbox for those interested:
1. getting the necessary components:
* memory card to put save game on it. You can find out how I did it using a homemade usb adapter here without a madcat or xbox memory unit, using a compact flash card and compact flash reader instead:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...=123499&hl=shag* 007 game. Rented from blockbuster for $4.50AUD for a week
* software all obtained from the _usual_ place:
007_With_Evox_Installer_PLUS.rar
PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit.zip
EvoxM7_ef_BFM.rar
Mordens_Audio_hack_007_V2.rar
xbtool
2. getting ftp access to my xbox: I used 007_With_Evox_Installer_PLUS.rar and just created save game out of that. I put this save game on my memory stick and plugged it into my xbox, then transferred the save game to the harddisk. Then loaded this save game using 007. Remember you have to enter a mission first, then exist. Then load the save game.
3. Xbox was hooked up to a router which has dhcp so it configured itself. Otherwise you'll have to setup the network settings. Fantastic, now had ftp access..
4. Extracted Morden's audio hack to a temp location and got a copy of evoxdash.xbe, evox.ini and ST.DB out of that. THanks Morden
5. Okay, with the PBL1.3.5i, the zip file contains everything you need so no need to chase keys or even sign anything
There wasn't actually much info in this zip so wasn't too sure how do I install it.. After alot of searching and fiddling around, the procedure is as follows:
a. extract PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit.zip to say d: and specify to use folder names.
b. it will create a directory called PBL1.3.5i as well as a subdirectory called bioses. Directory PBL1.3.5i contains a bunch of files. Directory bioses is empty..
c. you will also see that there is a notes.txt file.. ignore the two lines which read:
"RC4 key is not in boot.cfg.
Old boot.cfg will not work."
It's not true!!
d. Rename the default.xbe to linux.xbe found in the PBL1.3.5i directory.
6. Now with the EvoxM7_ef_BFM bios.. alot of confusion here I found in the forums.. after alot of messing about, here's how you actually use it:
a. extract it to a temp location
b. load this bios up in xbtool.. forums have steps on using xbtool. so search.
c. note the name of the bios when you extract it.. it says EvoxM7_ef_BFM.bin. Well even though it has BFM in it's name, it isn't a BFM bios. You can see this when you load it up in xbtool. So you gotta click on the BFM check box within xbtool.
====
UPDATE: EvoxM7_ef_BFM.rar at the usual place has been updated with the bfm flag checked!
====
e. by default it loads evoxdash.xbe from c:. I wanted to load it from e:evox so I changed it to e:evoxevoxdash.xbe. I don't want anything in c:
f. Now save this bios as xboxrom.bin
Also I read in one of the threads that someone said you have to use a 256K bios with the 1.4/1.5 xboxes, not true! The EvoxM7 bios is 1MB.
7. Okay, ftp'ed into my xbox, went to e:tdatafffe0000music to copy the default st.db to my pc for safe keeping but it wasn't there!! Definitely wasn't expecting that.. I dunno where it is.. tried searching but couldn't find it..
8. Doesn't matter, I continued on...
* copied the ST.DB file from my pc to e:tdatafffe0000music
* created a directory called e:evox and copied in evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini
9. Now for the PBL1.3.5i:
* copied all files from directory PBL1.3.5i into e: including the "bioses" folder which is empty.
10. Now the bios:
* copied xboxrom.bin (modified EvoxM7_ef_BFM bios) into e:bioses
11. I end up with an e drive which contains the following:

NOTE: some files sizes and dates might not match as I have modified my evox.ini once i got it all working. Also note that in my bioses folder there is the EvoXD6_EjectFix_bfm.bin bios, I have tried loading this and it works too.
12. Okay, now that everything is done. I put in an audio cd, punched in the sequence B-DOWN-A-Right-Right-A-A-A, voila! phoenix loads, screen is all scrambled as expected.. Can make out some words about pressing A to load another bios.. But just leave it, by default it will run xboxrom.bin found in Bioses directory.. Poooof! evox loads and it's not scrambled and I'm done!!
Hope that helps those who are still stuck.
Cheers,
Shag
ps. if I made any errors, do let me know.. I'll fix it up
