Live Blocking (not About Which Bios)
« on: November 22, 2004, 04:55:00 PM »

ind-bios, along with x2 4981and onwards
block LIVE by not allowing ports to send out
effectivly, a firewall as it were

i know that the wording is'nt too good,
but its trying to say that .. it blocks everything and no patching is required

BUT if using a hacked variant of a the original dash (like tHc etc) then it will also block that FTP as well ! so the title ID will need to be changed accordingly
well at least that show i understand it !

i know its a bit confusing when u first read the NFO !

Mick ..

I see, so it blocks all ports used by live, aswell as ftp on ms dash?

How does live blocking work. From reading the nfo on ind-bios 5003 it seems you need to patch the actual xbe files themselves.

what suggests that?

no, it doesnt block ports, its nothing like a firewall.

Before the xbox tries to connect to xbox live, it calls a function to make sure there is a network cable plugged in.  The x2 and ind-bios make it so that, this function always returns false, so no attempt to contact live is made.

for ind-bios, it does the same, but this time applying to ALL network connections, not ftp, not xbox live, but everything.  There is no network code in a bios, blocking specific ports is not feasible.

thc does not have an ftpd, and UIX will have a different titleID when released, as does dash2gam.  That note is for developers, not for users.

This only applies only .xbe's where the titleID matches that of the MS dash.  ( 0xFFFE0000)

i was under the impression ind didnt have live blocking.

so what you guys are saying is  i'd assume that i'm safe if i'm running ind and one of my stupid friends selects a live game?
