Eeprom Modified By Xbmp, Can Anyone Help Me?
« on: July 27, 2004, 06:09:00 PM »

Few months back I've softmodded my xbox successfully to play my backup games once every month or more. Just today, I watched some anime divx and xvid in the living room. I used my xbox XBMP to play them and when I reset the unit to play a game, my xbox always boots into blank screen.

The only way to get to xbox dash now is to unplug my xbox for 30min then it loads Evox fine. However, I need to unplug the unit for 30min everytime I reset the unit.

I read the artical written by Ricecake and he mentioned that it is best to backup the eeprom as XBMP might make some changes to it. However, I didn't fiddle with any region code or whatsoever. All I did is change the XBMP display settings and so the anime looks better on my dad's 28" widescreen tv.

I didn't backup my eeprom last time as I don't have any plan to make any hardware changes.

So can anyone help me / tell me if I can still fix my xbox so it will boot like normal again (i.e. no need to unplug 30 mins). I'm hoping as I can still get into evox so I just wonder

PS-
1. my xbox is v1.0, softmodded and the cover was never opened
2. I have another V1.0 xbox which is unmodded and is 100% working.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you  :(

I feel for you man but you shulda backed it up, i wouldnt know what to do but i would advise reading lots of tutorials to see if theres a way to fix this. Member next time a tutorial says back something up, it means it.

and if you have another xbox why not copy the emprom from one to the other? would that work?
I wouldnt know

I heard my name, lol...

Well messing with literally any settings in XBMP causes problems like this.

Is there a way to fix it? Maybe. If I can think of it though I'll get back to you.

I know I fixed this somemhow.

Thanks RiceCake, I thought you won't help since you have written so many warning to us newbie. Ever since I've softmodded my xbox, I rarely read this forum so I didn't spot your eeprom warning. Beside, at the time when I mod my xbox, no eeprom thingy was mentioned. So only done the evox backup thing.

I'm hoping to correct the eeprom via the 30min unplug method. However, where do I get a working eeprom?? can the method suggestted by SC2 works?

Hi

I've been checking the backups of my xbox in my PC when I first did the bert and ernie exploit many months ago.

I came accross this backup folder (I think was created by using EvolutionX) and there is this file call >>> eeprom.bin

Can I use it to restore my current eeprom which I believed has been modified by the XBMP?

Thanks

 yes that is the one
you might want to look at it in one of the pc app to see
what was changed for you own "Sanity"

I think the only way is, modchip with embeded EEPROM in bios

i don't have any mod-chip, isn't there any software solution? since i got backup of my original eeprom.bin, but the problem is that i can't pass the 21 error screen, is there any possiblity that the error doesn't comes from the eeprom? because in the help of xbmp, it's written that if such error can happen, it's advised to "delete system.bin and/or edit eeprom settings via another app", what's system.bin?

you said it would not boot any original xbox games...
the ms bios does not even look at the HDD to boot
(other then to see if it's locked) original games
unless the clock is not set...if that is the case
then you need to restore the HDD from backup on PC
error 21 is a corrupted or missing dash file(s)

if error 21 is a corrupted or missing dash, how come it can't boot originals, i tought it's not using the dash to boot originals, is it not?
anyway, if i understood correctly, you saying that this error is not eeprom realated so restoring the hdd, might fix it?

if you xbox was unpluged for a few hours then there is a chance
that the clock is not set......if this is the CASE then the error 21 could
be a corrupted dash from XBMC. if not it is a corrupted EEPROM
the only chance you have is to restore the MS dash files
if that don't work you are screwed !!

EDIT the only time it's goes to the MS dash instead of the original game
is if the clock is not set.

nope the x-box wasn't unplugged for any hour, the moment the xbmp reboot, it had this error...
so must be an eeprom error?
