Apple Movie Trailers
« on: September 14, 2006, 12:10:00 AM »

Iv'e just discovered using scripts to surf the net and stuff with XBMC.

The 1st night i used it I was watching all these movie trailers from apple and everything worked great, that was tuesday night. now for some reason i can't veiw trailers in xbmc. I haven't made any changes, i just get these errors saying can't connect to http://apple..................... etc.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

P.s. I can use other scripts to watch porn on the net wink.gif so doesn't seem to be a problem with my xbox's network connection.

Something seems to have gone wrong with the movie trailer script built into xbmc.

Same here, what version of XBMC are you using?  I only ask because I want make sure it isn't XBMC related.  My theory is the apple site has changed for support with Itunes 7 so the script will most likely have to be modified.

Not working for me either.  Think it must be some sort of change at the Apple site that has caused it not to work anymore.

Are there any workarounds for it?

Are there any changes that need to be made to any xml files??

I'm using the 8-9 release and I'll be going over to my brother's place today so I can see if his is still working.  He is using the 7-23 IIRC.  Anyway I think it is more likely the Apple site has changed since they have released some "new" products.

again I don't believe it has anything to do with the new tech release, it is apple's site that has changed.  Doesn't work on mine, newer version nor my brother's, older version.

why would apple deny us accses?  the whole point of the site is to promote films, which xbmc helps do

I noticed this too. It seems to me that Apple has changed the XML Schema. For example, when QuickTimeBrowser_utils.py tries to read Exclusive Movie Trailers from MAIN_INDEX_URL (http://www.apple.com...xml/h/index.xml), it uses path
/Document/ScrollView/MatrixView/VBoxView[1]/MatrixView.
The path is now
/Document/View/ScrollView/MatrixView/View/VBoxView
etc. (I didn't check which node would suite the needs of the script, so that path is probably not enough). If the changes are only minor (like added a View-node under Document-node), it should not be that hard to fix - though I'd guess that Apple has done more complex changes since it wouldn't make much sense to do just some cosmetic changes.

By the way, how can these scripts be debugged on a computer? The xbmc related libraries should be imported, but I'd think that somehing else is needed too (since the xbmc libraries probably do not work in my computer)? It is too slow to upload the modified scripts to the xbox and then run to the living room to test it and then come back again :)

deny us access?  They changed their website, all companies update and modify their websites.  The script was written using the older site and now that they have changed it the script no longer works.  Remember Apple launched some new stuff a week or so ago, the website updates were bound to happen.  Go to apple's movie trailer section does it look different?  I couldn't tell you because I never went there on a PC.

Also, no apple does not think about XBMC when updating their website or they would make their own script for us to download and use or keep a second site up that works with the existing script.

XboxMediaCenter (XBMC) 2006-09-24 CVS T3CH build

...
* QTB (QuickTimeBrowser) has been removed. It stopped working.
Instead I include an ALPHA version of a new "trailer" script that is being created by Killarny & Nuka1195. Cheers guys!
NOTE! about new script, first time you run it, it takes quite a while (5 - 10mins depending on connection). Also note that script isn't finished, so lots may still change.
