Installing Xbmc And Upgrading.
« on: July 06, 2004, 07:35:00 AM »

So you got XBMC and now want to use it?

GREAT!

First

If you use Evo-X please go to System Utils and then Settings.

There Set IGR (In Game Resets) to NO and do the same for TSR.

Do not forget to SAVE and EXIT at the bottom of the screen.

There, now we can start with the install.

Lets say you downloaded XBMC-CVS_DATE_GOES_HERE-T3CH.rar

(Only T3Ch releases supported, go bug gasgiver, medusa, fedr etc etc for support if you use a build with their name]

First, you will need winrar to extract it. Get it from http://rarlabs.com/download.htm.

Unrar the file to a folder called XBMC on your pc.

These folders and files should be in that folder:

CODE

Folder: credits
Folder: language
Folder: media
Folder: screensavers
Folder: scripts
Folder: skin
Folder: sounds
Folder: system
Folder: Userdata
Folder: weather
Folder: web
Folder: visualisations

File: Changelog.txt
File: Changelog_PM.txt
File: copying.txt
File: keymapping.txt
File: known_issues.txt
File: T3CH-README_1ST.txt
File: default.xbe

These are the essential files and folders.

Check the Pinned Topic for up-to-date scripts, python and codecs downloads!

If you installed all your apps with a auto-installer and do not have a network setup it it high time to look into it. You will need to have it if you are gonna enjoy your xbox.
Follow this LINK for some basic networking help.

Now ftp the XBMC folder over to the XBox and put it where you have your other programs/apps. ( Example: F:\Apps\XBMC )

A great free ftp client is FLASHFXP and it is shareware for 30 days.
Cute_FTP is NOT RECOMMENDED

If you wondered what happened to XBoxMediaCenter.xml, More info here:

and

To update XBMC you will need to take these steps:

0: If updating from a version older then 6 months then please remove all of XBMC and start freash!
1: Get the new T3CH cvs/point release.
2: Unrar the file to your pc harddrive.
3: Check the changelog for db (database changes). (If the Video and or Music section wont work after the upgrade please delete the Albums folder inside XBMC\userdata directory)
4: Ftp in to the xbox and delete the E:\TDATA\0face008 folder (or delete the xbmc savegame from the msdash.)
6: If there where any db changes since your last version then delete the XBMC\userdata\Albums directory
7: Either delete the old XBMC files or make sure you overwrite them. I suggest you delete the skinfolder as it may have redundent xml´s etc.
8: Check the System/players/mplayer/codecs folder if any new dll´s are supported. (if you do not have any codecs there or need to update you can find a download location for all supported codecs in the pinned topic)

If done right you should now have a updated version of XBMC.
