Kinda a stupid question but i've been looking for a 1ghz/128ram upgraded xbox for some time now.

Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to do it? or a good place to find one?

I think trusty got the info from a chinese website
there is no english tutorial that i know of

Some things i know

The cpu used is a 100fsb laptop chip with a 10x multiplier or 7x with speed stepping
the pins are modified to give a 7.5 multiplier

Does a 1ghz mod support lets say a 720p x.264 in XBMC ?

I had a 128 ram mod a while ago and it was only really useful for Linux and Mame.

What advantages do you get with your upgraded xbox?

Yes, would be interesting to know if you woul[d be able to play 720p files now that they are getting more and more popular with TV Shows and HD-DVD.

Anyone out there tried, this would be the only reason why I would upgrade.

Cheers,
Damien

I also would be interested in hearing what advantages a 1GHz mod gives you. I already have a 128 MB upgrade for some emulators and Linux but didn't plan on upgrading the CPU yet.
Do also emulators profit from that and more games are playable or run smoother? For example the GameBoy emulator XBoyAdvance plays GBA roms only with sound problems or if you want perfect sound with frame skipping. If games would run at full speed with this emulator that would make a 1 GHz mod something worth thinking about.
Also Surreal 64/XXX, the MAME ports (MAMEoX, BenderMAME...) have problems with later games, would be great if they could run with this mod more games at full speed or at least playable.

It will give you about 36% extra raw processing power and then you add the 256k cache instead of 128k
which does even more as you are going from a celeron to a true PIII

id say you get about 70% effective performance boost

emulators will ofc benefit from this

I would assume yes, crazy glue would not be an option and there's no such thing a soft mod cpu (unless you're making a P4 run like a 286).
No crazy glue would not work but a CPU can be held in place using a Socket with a locking lever like you find on Motherboards you put in tower PCs, and when did i mention soft-modding a CPU? (which technically isn't possible).

Shonk, great work on the patch. Now we just need this built into XBMC. For games on harddrive, if a "patchgameto1ghz" setting is set, patch the game if applicable. Kind of like the flicker patch

I wrote the flickerFilter patch, and all I ended up doing was releasing the source code and one of the XBMC devs emailed me a couple days later and said it was implemented in the next release.  It was magic.  wink.gif

Hopefully this will happen to you too...

Very nice work BTW, and there is a 128MB patcher out there currently, so you could probably patch an .XBE and then compare the two to see what it did.  I think it's just a byte or two in the xbe header.

Perhaps all these tools could be wrapped up into 1 monster patcher?

Could someone please answer this? I just stumbled onto this 1ghz mod thing and I'd definitely end up doing this mod if I could play 720p on the xbox. XBMC plays 540p files well in x264 and xvid, but 720p files aren't watchable because of the stuttering. I was thinking about doing a media center pc for HD stuff, but if this works i'll just do it instead.

And I know its a long shot, but what about 1080i or 1080p files on the 1ghz mod?

Any reply would be great!

I know DeLimit.exe changes the value of a flag, what exactly does this patch do?
