Auto-truncating/renaming Files In Smartftp/flashftp

You could just use an FTP server on the xbox that knows how to rename files to stay within the FATX limits - XBMC's ftp server does this, as does UnleashX's.
There are a whole load of tools for renaming files on the PC to match the limits too, check the tools download section on the main x-s page.

man aint it a trip, the latest auto updated unleash x wont do it, least not all of em.  I am still having a huge problem with folders not going over and I dont know why, guess its time to bust me some fxp logs......

The latest UnleashX does support Auto Renaming. It's in the network settings I think. It's off by default.
