A Battlefield 1942 Port?
« on: November 05, 2006, 06:11:00 PM »

I was wondering if it was possible to port battlefield 1942 to the xbox. It was supposed to be ported to the xbox by microsoft or EA but it was finally canceled and I would really liek if we could resurrect the idea. would it be possible to port it to the xbox or would we have to build it from the ground up? any input would be appreciated.

No Source = No Port.

And do you have any idea how much work it would be to build it from the ground up?

I'm not huge into FPS games, as I prefer RPGs primarily.  I don't know if it used an existing engine, or one from scratch.  However, a premiere title like that usually takes full-time professionals 2 or more years, when they have a HUGE team working on it.

If they are using an existing engine, and they skimp, maybe 12-18 months at the bare minimum, but again with a huge team.  If they write an engine from scratch, you're talking 3 years.

So recruit a huge team willing to work 50-60 hour weeks (professionals talk about 80 hour weeks during crunch) for free for a couple years, and there you go!
