Openmugen For Xbox(a 2d Fight Engine)
« on: October 28, 2004, 01:38:00 PM »

Hallo my name is Sahin Vardar aka SakirSoft from the OpenMugen team.

OpenMugen is a redevelopment of elecbytes M.U.G.E.N and it is opensource.
For some reason elecbyte has stopped the development of M.U.G.E.N and so we are now redevelope it.

It exist more then 1000 charackters and stages for this Engine(look at www.mugenation.com).

OpenMugen will also aviable on XBOX and so the XBOX will have 1000 of popular 2d Charackters like from streetfighter or other fighting games.

It enables you to create your own 2d Fighting Game.
You own Stages, chars and screen motives.

But remember it is in the beginning stages and it also a beta.
We need a web master. If some one have time and motivation please tell us.

You can find the beta at http://sourceforge.net/projects/openmugen/
and ouer poor web page at http://openmugen.sourceforge.net/

OpenMugen is designed to be platform independent.
Also it works on Linux Windows and XBOX.
But no bins for the moment for the XBOX because of the XDK but when the OpenXDK becomes better then i will use it.

Sahin, ap hindi bulata hai?

If you didnt understand that its ok, just trying to see if I was correct.  onto the topic at hand, THANK YOU SO MUCH!  You do not kno how happy I am to see this.  We really need to Port Mugen to the XBox, so many people wanted this.  Here is a suggestion from an avid fan:

Keep all settings the same (such as how you add stages, characters and screenpacks) to keep things simple and easy especially for htose who ahve used Mugen in the past.  Also if possible, allow for Mugen created characters to work on this port (dont know if that would work as it is a recreation)

THanks a lot and I cant waiy!  Good luck!

Thanx kollision

Of course MUGEn chars will be playable.

OpenMugen will be mugen with all it features and some other new features.
The most importent of them will be the network playing option.

But remember it is a beta and in the development. But i work hard to get it to work.

I think it will take 6 month to bring it in playable state , maybe less ;-)

Youre welcome

Were you able to read what I wrote?  Man, this is crazy. network play.  However, how would that work?  Everyone is going to be having different characters and such.  Is there going to be a thing that checks each persons data and stuff?  And I thnak you for your hard work, where would we be without it?  No mugen hehe.

No sorry i was not able to understand your "ap hindi bulata hai".

For the Network Playing i have too concepts for it.

The first and the best (for me) is to release OpenMugen Online Packs.
A online pack is a set of chars by a them like Street Fighter them or a Dragon Ball Z them.

So if you want to play Street Fighter chars online you must have the Online pack.
Because evryone with this pack has all the same chars.

The second and more advantages idee is to have a main server wich loads all the chars  from each mugen player to its hard disk and then uploads the chars to players which they not have. But this would be very expensive for me.Because i will need a very fast server with a lot of free hardisk space.

But first it is importent to bring OpenMugen in a state like the Orginal M.U.G.E.N

Hi there Sakir,

What I was asking is if you can speak hindi.  I thought maybe you were indian because I saw your name.  I am not indian but I can speak some hindi.

your online pack is a great idea.  I have a slow internet connection on uploads and I would help if I could.  Im stuck with DSL, so you probably know its upload speed is not very fast.  Unlike cable...Maybe you might be able to get sponsered and get a server?  I dont know how easy this is but it could be a possibility, or prolly someone who likes mugen could host it.

I personally would like to see a SF pack.  Have you seen Evil Ryu and the Evil Ken versions?  Well the main site that has it is down, but heres a site that has his pics http://www.angelfire.com/ca7/plas/mugen/do...il_ken_ryu.html

I knwo I shouldnt be going ahead, as there is a long way to go, but this is just exciting.  Are you the only one coding this?  Prolyl theres some coders out there that oculd lend a hand if they wanted.  Thx a lot for your work Sakir and take care.

HI kollision and thanx for you interrest in this project.

Yes i am the only person who codes for this project.
The whole source is from me  cool.gif

And i am a turkish male wich lifes in germany not hindi.

As a good programme my intenstion is to use as less resource as possible.
And so i will do it in the online option in OpenMugen.

OpenMugen is rather simple as todays Top games like Doom3 and will not use so much bandwidth. My goal is to bring OpenMugen playable on a 56K modem.
But DSL will be defenitiv working for it.

It is amazing of how much infromation can be stored in 1KB

I hope i can handel the different Verison with each other in online mode.

PS. Does anyone know about a port of the SDL_net SDK for XBOX?

Ahh Turkish, cool, sorry about that.

Do you think youll release the source when its all done, so other programmers can dabble in it, or its going to be all private source?

What did you mean by the 1 KB?  What stuff can be stored in it?

What I think would be cool, if you would like to add, is a tag team multiplayer, like the 2 vs 2 but with 4 ppl or 3 if theres 2 ppl on one xbox and 1 on the other.  Also perhaps a tag team arcade mode with 2 ppl online.

Again, I hope maybe someone can jump in in giving you a hand, especially with that question you asked.  I think the unprofessional would know a lot about that, as his game is going to be online.  Its in the sticky.  Please let us know of any impoirtant stuff regarding Openmugen, we are waiting in anticipation.  Thanks so much again!

I beleive HCl, the person that ported Open Transport Tycoon for the Xbox, has a modified SDL lib for the xbox on his site that supports SDL_Net.

EDIT: Here it is http://titania.student.utwente.nl/xbox/

lantus has a port of sdl for xbox. Im sure u can talk to him on his site he has the source.  As for open xdk... it has a long way to go. It would be better off if you just made it able to be compiled by the orginal xdk for people who have that... instead of waiting who knows how long for open xdk to work.

I have already compiled it with the lantus SDL port but i think there is not SDL_net port for it.

I will check it.

I mean information for Networkplaying.
Imagine 1KB up/down speed.
In this 1KB it is possible to store the Players position state and so on...

I only want to say that i will do my best to keep the bandwidth usage of OpenMugen at a minimum.

Of course i will compile it with the XDK but with no offical bins.
But it will be in the usual places  rolleyes.gif
