Kashtmoney: I was, more or less, joking. Do you really believe you can get the sourcecode from a retail cd??? You can't. I have never heard any game company providing the sourcecode on a cd. It could happen, but VERY doubtfully so. Stop searching for the cd, the sourcecode isn't on it anyway.

As I've understood it the sourcecode is on some server. I haven't checked it out myself though.

Void: Can't you port the game now that you left xmule? You'd make everyone happy. What are your programing skills?

Now that blueshogun96 is taking over for me, I'll get to it when I get a chance.  My programming skills:  I've been programming in C/C++ for about 2 years now.  So far I've in the Intermediate level of DirectX8.  I think I can do it.  Like all ports, it will take time.  I'll try not to let you down. cool.gif

This will be so awesome if you get it to work well with LAN.  This is one of my favorite games and franchises!

Sorry, it was not my intent to offend you. I just thought you should've understood it when I made my first reply about it.  beerchug.gif

1. I'm on it!
2. Maybe if I get a chance.  I still have my programming books to read.  It takes time to become lantus junior.
3. Man that is some really bulky src.  It's a good thing there is a AvP bible, or else I'd be going in circles uhh.gif But in a way, it looks like it will be easier than I thought. laugh.gif
4. I'm having problems getting the game to run first of all.  Everytime I try to play it I get this error msg about sending a error report to MS.  It's really getting annoying.  I can't figure out what I did wrong.  I followed the instructions on the bible, and I'm still having problems.

I think jdoom will be one of the "easier ports".  AvP is such a LARGE game,  it will take some serious time and effort.

Not only is it large, but there are also a few technical challenges in there that are gonna be time consumming and need planning and pretty deep understanding of the code if you want a decent port (bink videos, audio support, removing directdraw usage, etc).  It's definitly not easy, and certainly not a short term project...

I'm sure DirectDraw7 can be converted into DirectDraw8 ok (and no, DirectDraw is NOT dead).  I wonder if lantus is willing to try...

btw: Brouhaha, you are so right.  I thought it would be easier than it already is.  But in any case, porting a game (especially one you did not make) is no easy task.
