Softmodding My 1.6A Crystal Xbox : Error 21
« on: July 25, 2016, 09:34:00 AM »

if you have access to another known working 1.6 xbox, I'd extract that EEPROM and unlock it, re-lock it with the crystal EEPROM, and see if the error continues. if it does, then it's not the dash or the hard drive and is something else (try swapping the PSU, fan, and DVD drive.. there really isn't anything else left that can easily be fixed after that). a mod chip might fix it as well, since it uses a different boot file and typically turns off some of the checks that the xbox might be getting hung up on

Another strange thing: I do not have any .xip file at the root of C: on my xbox HDD. I rebuilt it from an MS 5960 dashboard. am I missing something?

im sick as shit right now sweating like crazy and can't check what the stock files should look like. you can grab them from a Hexen disk and rebuild xboxhdm with them in the C folder

Ok guys, I used autobuilder and I succeed in installing unleashx with an old computer with a CD drive. There is probably something wrong with my computer and xboxhdm 2.x.

The LED should be, by default, either solid green or solid yellow/amber. The latter was generally used to indicate a softmod was being used (important when use of a modded Xbox was a banning issue on Live) and was working properly. But it can depend on the dash/installer used.

i'd connect it to a router that has nothing else connected, just to see if the router finds it. If there are no lights, then id imagine that the port is shot.

hmmm.. at this point I'd be inclined to get a new xbox motherboard and set it up in the case. the 1.6 in the xbox crystal is not as good as the 1.0-1.5 anyway

i've never soft modded a ps2 before, but if you have the save file on a memory card and the right game, softmodding an xbox takes all of maybe 15 minutes. getting all the other extras on there is what takes time e.g.: loading emulators etc.
