Soft Modding, Skipping The Middle Man Questions
« on: July 19, 2013, 04:35:00 PM »

I have an unmodded box and a 250 gig hdd

I want to put xbmc on the 250 gig and I'm reading through the tutorials and trying to figure out what steps to skip and what must absolutely must be done.

If I follow tutorials by the letter I need to:
Use HDM and the hotswap method to unlock the drive record my hdd key
Back up my cdrive (playin it safe)
Install Ndure
FTP to the box and replace the current dash with XBMC
Use HDM to provide the new drive with the old key
Clone the whole dealio over
And I'm done

What I wan't to do is:
Hotswap for unlock, and use HDM to record the key
Use HDM to provide the new drive with the key
Clone the old drive onto the new drive
Install XBMC right from the get-go with HDM
And I'm done again

Can I do this? From what I understand, I can drop the XBMC files into the E:\ folder and they'll be placed right onto the box, assuming that's where they go.

Also, I've seen that HDM has a luck/unlock tool for drives. Does that mean that I still have to hotswap to unlock my drive, or can I skip this step now? (If not, then what is this tool for?)

I've been ready through tutorials for about a day now, and am just trying to set myself straight before I go around dicking with my box.

Also, I'll be using the usb bootable version of XboxHDM if that help (no cd-drive)

If you want to skip the middle man then you want to use AutoBuilder or Babylon for the softmod. No middle man required lol
