If the box has been on live with the current eeprom you will need a new eeprom and a new HDD that have never been paired on live before

if it hasn't been on live like you say then all you have to do is ensure you have the retail dashboard and all its supporting file and folders intact.

No need to remove the chip, just make sure you turn it off.

The drive has to be locked to that Xbox, should have left the chip in for that task. Then removed it after verifying that it boots ok.

You can... or if the dashboard your using has the option... I think Avalaunch has the option to lock the drive... Evox has it if your INI has the correct menu settings or even run an Auto Installer disk. Those have the option to lock/ unlock drives.

If you have a box with a HDD and eeprom that has never been on live before. You can go on live with that.
You don't have to put back in a stock 10g or whatever drive. When you install the retail dash etc onto an upgraded drive it has the Real files on it.
put the 10gig HDD in the box with the chip in it and boot slayers installer and choose the lock unlock menu.
Lock the drive thats it.
make sure the drive you are putting in has never been on  live before.
