you have to turn off the connection that the xbox is hooked up with inside windows.  otherwise windows jsut thinks that you unplugged the cable and it will still try and find the connection and give you that message.

In network connections, go to the properties of the connection.

Disable 'show status icon on the taskbar'

problem fixed!
