If you don't want to solder then get a Xecuter 2.3 lite+ or a chameleon with a solderless adapter. Both are good, and easy to install. Look at the chart to see the difference between em. Check all of x-s's sponsers for trustable sites with good prices.

and as for what desktop to use, do you mean dashboard? if so, then evox (evolution x) is the way to go
