Hubs, Switcher, Router And Crossover Cables?

If your using a cable modem, plug everything into your router, and you should be good to go!  Now, you may have to assign some IP addresses, but that's about it.

Usually with Cable connection, you're cable company only assigns you one IP you can use.  When using a router, the router itself takes that IP address, and assigns the other PCs with other IPs (like 198.162.1.100 or whatever you want)...

With a router you can "share" your internet connection... and have your own little LAN.  You can search Google on all the particulars.  Just treat the Xbox like you would another computer!
