« on: December 16, 2003, 04:31:00 AM »

How to network to your xbox without any ftp software.
Using dashboard EvolutionX +3921 and Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4
(It may work on other dash boards and operating systems but I wouldn't know)

Step 1: Hook a crossover cable up from your pc network card to your xbox.
Step 2: Turn on xbox.
Step 3: Go to System Utils, then Settings
Step 4: Put in these settings:

Under Network:
   Setup Network = Yes
   Use Static IP = Yes
   IP = 192.168.000.002
   Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway = 192.168.000.001
   DNS = 0.0.0.0
   DNS = 0.0.0.0
   Setup Delay = 0
   Skip Setup If No Link = No

Under FTP:
   Enable = Yes
   Password = xbox

Step 5: Make sure you go to "Save and Exit"
Step 6: Reset your xbox
Step 7: Turn on PC
Step 8: Click Start, Settings, Network and dialup connetions
Step 9: Right Click "Local Area Connection" and click Properties
Step 10: Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click Properties
Step 11: Select "Use the following IP address:
Step 12: Put in these settings:
   IP = 192.168.000.001
   Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway = 192.168.000.001
Step 13: Click Ok and click Ok again
Step 14: Double click "My Network Places"
Step 15: Double click "Add network Place"
Step 16: Type in ftp:// followed by your xbox's IP address like this "ftp://192.168.0.2"
Step 17: Click next uncheck "Log on anonymously", type in "xbox" for "user name" then click next
Step 18: Type in any name ( I used "xbox") click finish
Step 19: You should see your xbox files. If a pop up asks for a password type in "xbox"

simple, as you probably noticed when you try to log in from internet explorer you get an error sying that anonymous users cant log in. What you have to do is present a username when you make a request to connect, and you can do this by typing it into the command line. when you log into ftp in a browser window (IE, NETSCAPE, ETC) you usually type ftp://[ipaddress]/ like ftp://192.168.0.2/ in your case, BUT when yopu do that msie assmes your an anonymos user. really there are many fields you dont see (ftp://[USERNAME]:[PASSWORD]@[IP ADDRESS]:[PORT]) since your using the regular ftp port you can omit that like below.

THE SIMPLE ANSWER:
ftp://xbox:[password]@192.168.0.2/       (thats a colon between username [on evox its always xbox] and password [which you set]).   Remember NOT to put your password in brackets
