hello XanTium thanks for your helpfull explanation about serial numbers and factorys but if my xbox is made after 2003 it doesn't help me very much. I bought a Crystal Limited Edition xbox (2004-02-06/612 2093905 40605) and plan to mod it with a chamelion and a 300 GB hd. Since the chamelion (the solderless bus that is) supports up to v 1.5 xboxes and rumor goes that the CLE xbox is a 1.6. I wonder how do I find out what version xbox I have?  <

Well, I am sure that they will vary...but my crystal xbox is a v1.4  <

My crystal's a v1.4 too. But if you're gonna open it up then you can check by looking behind the GPU (the one with the smaller shiny metal heatsink thing) and it should have a FOCUS video chip. That means it's either a 1.4 or 1.5, but there are no crystal 1.5s, so it is very likely to be a 1.4. If it says XLB ont he video chip, it's a 1.6, but only one person seems to have had this and it was in an australian crystal green xbox  <

Does that mean that my kernel is 5713?

Is there any way to know for sure?  <

Yes, your kernel version is 5713 ... which doesn't match any of the given kernel versions on this thread.  So, that leaves us with the question of exactly what version this kernel refers to ... I am in the same boat

From my settings screen I am showing  K: 1.00.5101.01 -  D: 1.00.4920.01

If I understand correctly I have a box with 1.2 - 1.5 Bios, and the only way to know for sure from here is to crack it open?
Also I have two holes in CD tray with is a Samsung, and I understand that is a better one as far as reading CD-R's

OP: Please update the thread to show that kernel 5530 does in fact exist.

Shark Bait: Modchips typically work with any version/kernel (The new 1.6 is in the process of getting supported bios). If you're into exploits, then the kernel version is a big deal.

My system specs is also:

K: 1.00.5713.01
D: 1.00.5659.03

It now says that the 5713 is not a ver 1.6, but i have heard other wise.  Can anyone else confirm the the 5713 kernel is not a ver 1.6?

Hey there I just found this thread and wanted to add to the list of stuff.  I have a v1.1 xbox, but my infois as follows:  K:1.00.4983.67 D:1.00.5659.01  

I know the K - 1.00.4983.67 is from the bios on the modchip, but the D - 1.00.5659.01 is what wasnt adding up.  Just thought I let you know that there is something else out there.  And I also saw that someone else had this version as well.

so, I have a 5838, and I was really looking at modding it, (btw, its a halo SE, so the some of them are v1.6). So, when will a mod be available that works? Perhaps X3?
