error 7 is a general ide time out error. can be cause by hard disk failing, bad ide cable, failing dvd drive..
but it can also be caused by low power output on the psu. you should connect the dvd back and power up then use a multi meeter to read the 12v and 5v out put, if they are low there is a potentiomiter on the psu adjust that so its out puting enough power, see if that fixes it..
could just be that it dosent have enough power to fully power both devices so they dont time out.
