Xenium Won't Work
« on: February 08, 2007, 07:07:00 PM »

I bought a Xenium Gold S.P. fully solderless modchip. I installed it: solderless adapter goes into LPC holes, spacer and screw go in, ground wire into the hole, all that stuff. I plugged in the chip and turned on the Xbox. The chip glowed red and the light on the front of the Xbox fragged. Any tips on what I should do to get the mod chip working?

this url should get you to the full install manual. take a look and see what I might have done wrong
I have a version 1.1 Xbox (yes, I removed the solder from the LPC holes)

http://www.mod-chip....l_V1.0-V1.5.pdf

If you are blocked from the first url, use this one. It is not the full guide, but you will be able to get in

http://www.mod-chip....0-V1.5_Lite.pdf

If you have ever bought something from mod-chip.com, they gave you a password to access their install guides. If you have the password - use it. I just don't want to get in trouble with the site for giving out their passwords and stuff

first thing you need to do is check all the connections. even if your sure check them multiple times. it took me 6 or 7 times to get it right.

the solder should of stayed in there. it helps with the connections. now you might want to use the rivets that came with the chip. and only use the black base. the chip goes on the farthest 12 pins on the adapter. also make sure you havent burnt/lifted traces or pads when you removed the solder. check for solder splashes

you might want to get the iceguide (in my sig).

I used the rivets that were included. I accidentally put them in all the holes - not just the first 6 pairs. Was that bad?

Also, in the install guide on the website, it said remove the solder on the old Xbox versions.

Off subject - how do I get a signature with the picture and all at the bottom of my posts?

you can remove the solder it wont hurt anything but it was just best to leave it. but dont go and try to put it back in, just use the rivets. you might want to take those extra rivets out so they wont be lose inside the case.

click my controls at the top of screen. then at the left side click edit signature under personal profile. the pic will require you to make one (or have someone do it for you in the GFX forum) and to have it hosted on a photobucket or something similar so you can use it as a URL. and text is just like posting a reply.

I checked the connections many times. Can you think of anything else I may have done wrong?

About the sig - can I use an actual Photo or does it have to be a design sort of like yours?

also make sure you havent burnt/lifted traces or pads when you removed the solder. check for solder splashes

try a recovery from a disc.

you can use anything within the size limits and it has to be hosted on photobucket or something similar.

If I burnt the board, the xbox wouldn't work at all would it. I don't think I did because sometimes I still get the original bios. Also, The chip didn't come with any disc.

The flash guide suggests using EVOX 8. Will this work for backing up my games? on this site, am I allowed to ask where to find that?

yes you need them connected. you have to flash from the HDD.

read the iceguide in my sig and it will tell you how to do this.

power on by the eject button to see if it takes you to the XOS.

I downloaded a bios and put it on a flash drive. I plugged it into the Xbox with the USB adapter. I went to add new item under flash, all the drives showed up. I clicked and found the flash drive. All the files I had on there showed up on the list. But when I tried to copy the BIOS, it said "file will not fit" What should I do?
