Look at the iceguide, but the black mark on the chip should be covered by the recovery switch.  It sounds to me like the d0 is not right, if you are able to go to the M$ dash and the chip is "on".  Was the LED on the chip red?

Yes, the light was red.  I was thinking that it is the D0 too b/c solderless adapter doesn' really fit.  If it doesn't work after the prep pen, should I break the adapter wire and solder on the wire that came with pin header solution?
