well i got everything working and really appreciate all the help. funny enough i used a dvdrw with HeXEn burned onto it because i was out of dvd-rs. my xbox never had problems with dvdrw's. the drive is a thompson aswell. maybe some of the thompsons support the dvdrw format and others don't. mine reads cdrws aswell.
