Wont Obtain Dhcp Address
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:42:00 PM »

This just all of a sudden started happening a few weeks ago.
It was sporadic at first but now, it wont obtain an address at all.

Here's my setup.
I have an XBOX360 + XBOX1(X3CE) connected to a wireless bridge (WRT54G + DD-WRT)
I stream (SMB) media from Win7 x86 to the XBMC.
The XBOX360 has no problem obtaining an IP.  The XBOX1 will not.
Even booting into X3CL it won't obtain an IP.

I've tried removing the XB360 from the router(no effect)
I've tried swapping cables(no effect)

I thought that maybe the ethernet port was bad but I'm able to FTP with no problem.

Any thoughts on what I should look at next ?

your using a static ip to ftp to the xbox?

it could be something like your dhcp list is full..
(you have set it to 1-10.)and some other system is now stealing that ip address.
this would be a logical conlusion as it was not a constant "other system was not always on/using the ip" and now the other system is always on or is constantly using that ip.

If you could not Ftp to the xbox then i would blame the ics chip.

Here's another odd bit; even if I set a static IP on the XBOX, it still cannot connect through my wireless bridge.
I test this by trying to first connect to my samba shares and to the internet for Apple Trailers.  Neither work.
^This should work, unless you are entering an incorrect Default Gateway (for local connections) and/or DNS address (for internet connections) when you manually assigned an IP in your Xbox dash.

But through all this, I bricked my trusty WRT54G.

That sucks. I love my WRT54G's as much as I love my Xboxes, and would probably literally cry (tears) if one died. I have 3 of those myself hooked up in my home network (long story biggrin.gif), the 3rd of which, a WRT54GS V2.1, I received free of charge from a friend of mine. He had bricked it about a year prior and suddenly just offered it to me one day. He told me to take it home and have a go at it, so I did. I built a JTAG cable and hooked it up. I had it successfully un-bricked, alive and kicking 10 minutes after I left his house.   laugh.gif

Anyway, glad you got your issue sorted.

Unfortunately, I took the easy route and shorted the pins which I'm sure is what killed it.  I did it out of haste because I didnt want to look for a cable for my trusty JTAG (from previous projects).

Now it looks like I'm back to square one with my DHCP problem.
It will not obtain an address no matter how long I wait or reboot.

But, I have made a new observation..
If I turn on my 360 after my XB1 has booted, it will obtain an address and keep the connection alive.
I can then turn off the 360.

Sigh..
