Problems With Duo X3 Chip
« on: January 20, 2013, 04:38:00 PM »

Well I recently installed a Duo X3 chip and I flip the switch and the led light on the chip turns on when I turn on the Xbox, But when I turn on my Xbox the LED on my Xbox goes from Green, Orange, Red over and over and it just boots to the Original Xbox Screen.

So I downloaded and burned the Heimdall's Xbox Engineering disc at 4x and put it in my Xbox and it tells me that the Xbox does not recognize this disk please enter a CD DVD etc.
So it will play a CD fine but I was recently told that I needed a special connection for DVD's to play I don't know if that would affect the engineering disk.

Any help would be awesome biggrin.gif

Well the Xbox is a 1.2-1.5 I have a friend solder it for me I have pictures if needed.
I did contact the supplier and they said :
The d0 point is not a ground point.

It can be connected to the ground point  (d0 point on the motherboard to ground on the motherboard) instead of d0 on the motherboard to d0 on the chip, but only if you want the chip to be always on. (you would also need to run BT to pin 1 and remove the L1 wire completely).

Using the d0 point on the motherboard is the most important point.

It interrupts the boot cycle security code allowing unsigned code to be run.

The green orange red led is letting you know the chip is installed but not correctly.

Because it is the d0 point that is not correctly installed, the console is still booting with the regular boot cycle uninterrupted

This was very helpful because MY friend soldered all the wires and I want the chip to run all the time.
He did not solder on the d0 point then just used a ground for the d0 wire.
I just don't have a good diagram to show him what to do to re solder it for me.
So if you know any good diagrams for a Duo x3 version 1.2-1.5 please tell me

Thanks for replying biggrin.gif

The best way, to get your modchip always enabled is:
1. Solder D0 from motherboard to D0 on the modchip.
2. Solder BT on the modchip to GND, like on this picture

Here are complete diagrams:

Okay thank you very much for the picture and the link you sent was the first diagram I was using. I just didn't know that you could solder it so that the chip can go on and off I thought it would always be on lol

just a fyi..
not all mod chips use ground for BT.
the duox2 for example uses 3.3v for Bt, so always on would be connected to pin 9 on a duox2 not pin 2.
but a duox3 is a clone so shouldnt be thought of as the duox2's bigger brother.

The L1 and L2 are only used if you want to disable the modchip via the eject/power button. If you want the chip to always be on all you need are two wires, the BT and D0. Solder the D0 to the point on your motherboard and the BT to ground. Normally just grounding the D0 forces the xbox to boot from the LPC but modchips can differ so refer to my previous instructions. Also it looks like there is a cold solder joint on the D0 point on the modchip. Make sure your friend or whoever is doing the soldering uses enough heat and flux to control the solder so it doesn't go everywhere and short out your xbox.

l1 and l2 should be the cables that make the led flash didferent when there is hard disk access and lan access..
bt is what controlls on or off..
ground Bt for always on..
or solder bt to a resister near the controller ports to enable disable the chip depending on what you do with the power cable..

all you want to do though is solder a wire from BT to pin 2 (like the picture mrmajester posted)
and then have d0 connected.
dont worry about L1 and L2.
