Finally figured it out on my own.

I own a Gameboy ROM loader (EZWriter) which is installed on all of my PC's. For some reason they all wanted to see the X-chip as that device.

Once I uninstalled, I had to add the id numbers into the x-chip .inf file to get windows to load the drivers.

And it all worked!

I was able to test my newbie soldering job (1.6), and found that it works great...
