Male Pin Header On X-bit?
« on: September 22, 2003, 05:37:00 AM »

now am i looking at this wrong or is the pin header on the x-bit a male one instead of a female one? now that would mean i would have to remove my old pin header and solder a female connector onto my lpc thingy wont it?

if this is the case then im not happy!  sad.gif  sad.gif  sad.gif

nope i was right in the first place by the looks of things!

look here :-  http://www.dms3.com/xbit_pinheader_install.htm

now why the hell have they done that? that is just ridiculous!

every chip i have heard about has a normal female header socket ON THE CHIP!

so just to be bloody awkward they have gone and reversed it so all of us who have already soldered on headers for our other chips now have to desolder them and replace it with their socket!!!

NOT HAPPY!!!!!

I noticed this a few months ago when the pics were released.  This is the exact reason why I will not buy this chip.  Why be different?  Its quite absurd that they put a male header on the chip itself.

*** UPDATE ***

I just re-examined the pictures and may have found an explanation for the male headers.  The chip uses Surface Mount Technology.  Because of the traces on the underside of the board they probably chose SMT and there may not be an SMT female header adapter.  Just a theory.

I find this perplexing too. Although the modchip uses SMT, they should still be able to put a female header socket on the X-bit. I was thinking of buying this chip to exchange my X2Lite, but now i'm having second thoughts..... dry.gif

yeah... I'm normally  a "newest and greatest" person when it comes to xbox modchips.  I was planning on buying this, then maybe X3  IF it was better, but I don't think I want to go through the hassle of replacing my pinheaders.  On the other hand, this night be a nice upgrade for those which had an OZXchip (If I remember right)

Sure there are other ways of installing the chip. But then you really wouldn't have any other option than removing your "old" pinheader.
