i'd probably just go for the wire install, mainly because it was quick and easy to install, just heat the solder already in the holes, and slip the wires thru. and you dont need to take out the mother board

I went with wire solders too...
And I did my buddy's XBOX as well.

It was very easy, to be honest with you.  I guess now I can see the infatuation with the header pins install method.  But I would imagine it would be beneficial to owners of the 1.1 or 1.2 XBOX.....

Soldering the D0 point was a bit trick the first time.  2nd time.... I 0wn j00 D0!!
