Wire Gauge For Dvd Drive Hack

All the stinkin radioshacks in my area seem to be out of 30 gauge wire.  I got to thinking that maybe I could use the 24 gauge twisted pair from an ethernet cable.

Would this be doable, or is it too big?

or perhaps 26 gauge?

I read that most phone cables use 26 gauge twisted pair.

well, thanx for all the help....

the 24 gauge wire from twisted pair in cat5 cable worked just fine
